Our History
In 1992, South Carolina’s largest health insurer launched a company to administer benefits for substance abuse and mental health treatment. That subsidiary was Companion Benefit Alternatives, also known as CBA.
We help people navigate the journey to better health.
With every passing year, there are more treatments available for people who are addicted to drugs or who suffer from mental illness. More and more, employers realize the importance of offering behavioral benefits for their employees. More benefits also bring higher costs … and confusion.
Administration of these benefits can be very confusing for patients, providers and companies to understand. CBA specializes in untangling the maze of recovery.
In January 2006, the National Behavioral Consortium (NBC) invited us to join as an affiliate member. Our membership gives us access to great resources. We network with other members, sharing ideas and learning about the latest industry trends. We learn about our industry's best practices and quality improvement activities.
We also benefit from the experiences of other Managed Behavioral Health Organizations (MBHOs). This helps us provide quality care for our customers.
BlueChoice HealthPlan of South Carolina and BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina are independent licensees of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.
